Im not normally one to request suspensions - but this is an elbow to the head of a goaltender- who was injured on the play. 86 CD. I think a minimum 2 game suspension is warranted. Also noted is a goalie interference infraction in the first period as well. It seems pretty obvious that the Islanders are taking liberties on opposing teams goaltenders www.t80hl.com/page/games.php?num=442

While Potvin may not be the cleanest player in the league, he sure isn't dirty. Prior to the game, Potvin had 57 PIM through 55 games. Essentially that's one penalty every other game. Browsing through everyone's roster, his PIM I'd say is considered average as there are a fair amount of players with 60+ PIM. It seems most sit somewhere between 20-60PIM which I would consider normal.
I will agree that an elbow that injured Roy had to have some intent, so I'm suggesting a fine or 1 game suspension. I think Potvins history should play a factor here, and I don't recall a single time where he was suspended this year for an act like this. If this occurs again, I'm all for fairness and a harsher penalty should be dished out to him.
My obvious preference is a fine, but I'll accept a 1 game suspension if needed to settle the matter.

I see valid points on both sides of the argument here. Losing your starting goaltender is a major blow but Potvin doesn't have a track record of malicious intent. Had it been Neufeld, who was whistled for goaltender interference in the opening period, then I could have seen a harsher suspension, but that wasn't the case.
Based on that, Potvin will be suspended for one game for his actions. I have spoken with PJ and he elected to have him serve that suspension tonight, Wednesday, May 19, against Vancouver. He will be eligible to return for Thursday's contest against the Red Wings. Any future incidents will be looked at more harshly.
